 In its many forms, technology helps us in everyday life to make things easier. 

There are many different types of technology
  • Mechanical Technology   (wheels, cams, machines) 
  • Electronic Technology  (electric circuits, computers, telephones, phones, )
  • Medical Technology (pharmaceuticals, aids)
  • Transport Technology (ships, planes, trains, )
  • Tools  (toothbrush, chair, table)
  • Information Technology (IT)

Using Different Programs

There are some excellent programs which assist with increasing technology skills.

Microsoft
Outlook (Email)
Word
PowerPoint
Publisher


​These can be used to create documents, presentations and publications. 

Email

Email is now an essential requirement of job seeking.   It is recommended to set up an outlook email.  To do so go to Outlook.com to create an account. 
You should create a professional email.  An email that includes your first and surname.
Make sure you write down your password initially or put this in your phones notes.

Word

WORD is one of the most useful programs, this is used to develop Resumes and Cover letters. 

Using Word, create an official letter to yourself

(Structuring this with paragraphs, correct grammar and spelling)

Save your letter to a USB or your onedrive, Email your letter to yourself, and the teacher by attaching it.  Print it and read it to the class.

​This is similar to how we would structure a Cover letter.

PowerPoint

Powerpoint is used to create presentations.   This is ideal for using pictures and text and a more engaging way of delivering a message.

EXERCISE 

Create a Powerpoint with 8 slides that talk about you. 

Slide 1.   Should include the Your Name and the Title of the presentation 
Slide 2.  Should include information about who you are, including a picture and your age
Slide 3.  Should include Where you went to school, what you enjoyed, what you were good at, your favourite teacher. (a picture if you have one)
Slide 4.  Should include Who you live, what suburb, how long you have lived there
Slide 5.  Should include What activities you are interested in, including pictures
Slide 6.  Should include What you would like to do in the future - get a job, study,  what type of job, which study, including pictures
Slide 7.  Should include What you have learned so far in this course and how it will help you
Slide 8. Should include a powerful quote, something that is important to you

You will need to complete your presentation, save it to a USB or one drive, email to yourself and your teacher by attaching it.  Then present it to the class.

Publisher

This program is used to create publications, newsletters, flyers, posters. 

Create a simple one page newsletter about you. 

Include pictures, text (a paragraph on who you are). 

You will need to save your publication to your USB or one drive, email it to yourself and your teacher by attaching it. 

Other fun programs Weebly is a great website building tool, using drag and drop technology.

All these programs offer access for free to a limited range of tools.  Sign up is needed (use your outlook email).  They will help build your technology skills as well as planning and organising, problem solving, self management.
