Self Awareness, Esteem and Confidence - Vision and Goals
Self Management requires effort, energy, motivation and a vision and goals. It requires that you don't give up, even when things get tough, it requires that you will keep trying, even when things don't go right, it requires that you continually monitor your own performance to see if you are on track to achieve your goals. This will in turn build your self awareness, esteem and confidence.
It can be difficult to be motivated and have the energy and drive to do something. Having a vision or a goal is an important part of self management as it requires self commitment. Consider the commitment these people have made! What commitments can you make to your career, to your relationships and to yourself ?

Self Regulation
Self Regulation is when you set standards and rules for yourself... these are underpinned by your values. Values are important to building your self worth. Here are a list of core values. When you set a standard or rule it is based on the knowledge you have.
Example
I'm not going to steal. This self regulation is based on knowing that stealing is wrong, it has been taught to you by a parent or teacher and you know that there is a consequence which has a punishment. So the value is "to respect other people's property." The Self Regulation is that you will not steal.
Another example
I'm not going to eat junk food. This self regulation is based on knowing that too much junk food can make you sick and unhealthy. So the Self regulation you may on be to "eat junk food once a month"...
Try setting some Self Regulation around the follow: -
* Time
* Food
* Health
* Study
* Work
* Job seeking
* Family
* Relationships

Self Control and Understanding emotions
Self control is being in control of our emotions and reactions. It requires us to implement self regulations we have put into place. For example if our self regulation rule is to respect others. This requires us to control our temper, our negative reactions to someone who is disrespecting us and respond in a respectful, calm, quiet and positive yet constructive way.
Some Examples...
If someone is feeling unhappy or sad, what is the best way we can deal with this?
Could we ask them if there is anything we can do for them? Could we comfort them and say things like "it will be ok" "would you like a drink or to just sit and talk"
If someone is feeling angry or frustrated, how best can we deal with this?
Should we get angry too? Should we frustrate them more by saying that they shouldn't be angry. Or should we ask them "Is there is anything I can do?" " Would you like to talk about it?"
Emotions are sometimes hard to work out.
Here is a game to help us work out the emotion, then we can discuss what we may need to do in the case of each emotion.
